The Wainstone
A bespoke staircase for a hotel that needed a centrepiece not just a staircase.
When the Wainstone Hotel needed a new staircase, the brief was clear: it had to match the hotel's character, not compete with it. The existing interior had a classically opulent style with strong focal points throughout, the new staircase had to be a continuation of that, not an interruption.
Our team designed and built an installation in the style of our Northwood collection, carefully blending new and bespoke features into the existing decor of the hotel without disturbing the atmosphere it had taken years to create. The result is an open-rise staircase finished with a combination of glass panel balustrading and a shepherd's crook newel post, set in a contemporary curtail bottom step, a design that reads as both considered and confident in equal measure.
The whole staircase is finished with a specialist French polish treatment, giving it the depth and sheen that a hotel of this quality demands. It's a finish that rewards close inspection as much as it impresses from a distance which, in a space where guests spend time looking as well as passing through, is exactly the point.
