Lowe & Simpson was founded in 1969 by Stuart Lowe and Tommy Simpson in Middlesbrough, with a simple belief: that a staircase, built properly, could be the most impressive feature of any home. Over four decades, that belief hasn't changed but the company around it has grown considerably. Today, operating from a 30,000 sq ft purpose-built factory in Stockton-on-Tees, under the second generation of family ownership, Lowe & Simpson is the leading staircase manufacturer in the North of England.
The partnership with GL Joinery, the bespoke staircase specialists behind our Grand Luxia collection, brought with it decades of additional craftsmanship, a portfolio of genuinely exceptional work, and a team who share the same commitment to quality that has defined Lowe & Simpson since day one. Together, we design, manufacture and install staircases for residential and commercial spaces across the country, from a standard closed string for a new-build development to a hand-finished spiral staircase for a client who wants something entirely one-off.
What hasn't changed, through all of it, is the way we work. Every staircase is manufactured in-house, to your specification, by craftsmen who take the same pride in a well-cut string and a flawlessly fitted handrail as they did when the company began. We don't outsource our quality. We build it in.
Our History
Starting out as a small joinery operation in Middlesbrough. Lowe and Simpson was built on a simple set of priorities: distinction, quality, service and satisfaction the same four principles that guide everything we do today.
Over the following decades, the company grew steadily expanding its factory, its team and its capabilities eventually moving into the 30,000 sq ft purpose-built facility in Stockton-on-Tees that remains our home today. The second generation of the family took the helm, bringing fresh ambition to a business already well-established in its craft, and the partnership with GL Joinery founded by Gary Lamming, whose bespoke staircase work earned a reputation all of its own brought the two strongest names in the region together.
The result is a company with over 100 years of combined experience, a factory built specifically for what we do, and a team that has grown without ever losing sight of what made Lowe & Simpson worth working with in the first place.
