It's often the smallest details that make the biggest difference to how a staircase feels, and feature steps are a good example. Curtail steps, where the bottom tread curves or scrolls outward beyond the line of the staircase, are a particularly popular choice for a grand entrance hall.
Available in any timber to match the rest of your staircase, a curtail step gives the bottom of a staircase a sense of occasion before you've even started climbing. It's a detail that costs relatively little in the context of a full staircase, but changes the first impression considerably.
