Styles
There's more than one way to build a staircase, and the right one depends on your home as much as your taste. From classic closed string to a sweeping curve or a floating cantilever, these are the core staircase styles we build, each one available across our Collections, and each one entirely open to bespoke variation.
Standard Closed String
The most common staircase style, for good reason. Simple in form, but far from plain, the right materials and finish can turn a closed string staircase from a practical way to the loft into the focal point of a home.
Cut String
A cut string staircase adds detail where a closed string conceals it, exposing the face string for pattern, profile and decorative riser brackets. Traditional or contemporary, the choice is entirely in the finish.
Open Rise
Removing the riser lets light move through a staircase rather than being blocked by it. From a curved half-riser to a glass infill or a thicker tread that needs no riser at all, an open rise design opens up the room around it.
Conversion
Sometimes a staircase doesn't need replacing, just reimagining. Our metal and glass conversions transform an existing staircase with powder-coated panels or seamless glazing, a new look, without starting from scratch.
Glass Balustrade
Clean, contemporary lines that let light travel through a space instead of stopping at it. Toughened glass, paired with chrome, satin or timber fixings, visible or hidden, glass balustrading suits almost any scheme.
Metal Balustrade
Powder-coated to any RAL colour, in gloss, semi-gloss or matt, metal balustrading adds structure to a staircase and ties it to the rest of your home, practical, contemporary, and built to last.
Continuous Handrail
A handrail that flows, uninterrupted, from top to bottom, gooseneck where it needs to rise, supported by turned newels where the staircase runs straight. One of the most elegant details a staircase can have.
Curved Staircase
Among the most bespoke staircases we build, and among the most rewarding. A curved staircase flows effortlessly through a space in any timber, finished with glass or spindles, a genuine focal point, or a clever way to save space.
Feature Steps
Small details, big difference. Curtail steps bring a sense of occasion to the bottom of a staircase, a popular finishing touch for a genuinely grand entrance hall.
Floating Cantilever
Steel stringers, fixed to the wall before the plasterwork goes on, create a staircase that appears to float with no visible means of support. One of our most requested designs for a genuinely modern hallway.
Piano Staircase
Named for the contrast it creates, two different timbers, one for the tread and one for the riser, played off against each other like the keys of a piano. A simple idea, with a striking result.
Spindle Staircase
Spindles are often mistaken for the traditional choice, but the effect can be entirely modern. In timber, French-polished to match your scheme, or metal, powder-coated to any RAL colour, spindle staircases are built to catch the eye.
